New MovieInsured by Carver
Oblivion, the newest sci-fi movie to hit theaters, casts Tom Cruise as Jack Harper in a post-apocalyptic world. The year is 2077, and Jack is an engineer stationed on Earth. Virtually everyone has left Earth, which was devastated by aliens 60 years ago. The aliens destroyed the moon, and a plethora of tsunamis, nuclear disasters and earthquakes followed on Earth.
With human society surviving on one of Saturn’s moons, Jack is sent to Earth’s destroyed surface daily. His assignment is to repair drones that scan for alien scavengers. He is overseen by Victoria from Mission Control, which ironically still has a Texan accent.
When Jack was assigned this role, his memory was wiped. However, he still has a few faint notions of the past, which he struggles to remember. The most persistent memory is of a beautiful woman standing atop the Empire State Building in New York. This memory or dream continues to come into Jack’s mind, until one day he sees the woman of his memory. She is the lone survivor of a crashed space ship on Earth. In this new movie directed by Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy), Jack and this mysterious woman have more in common than one might think.
